Medieval Militia Evolves From 1969 Maryland Invasion Die-In
Bruce Blackistone, known as Atli, and 11 other Maryland students staged a 1969 Normandy reenactment that evolved into the Markland Medieval Mercenary Militia. By last October the group grew to over 100 members staging battles, Jankovic as Vuk and others crafting armor, chain mail, and tunics. They enforce rules, use padded weapons, and treat battle as workout, theater, and education rather than real combat.
