Mint Robbery Solved Charges Kilpatrick With Silver Theft
Philadelphia reports the mint mystery ended as secret service agents arrested laborer Robert Kilpatrick at his home on a $2500 bail. Arraigned before U S Commissioner Craig, Kilpatrick faced testimony from Matthew Griffin of the Secret Service. He allegedly accessed vaults by his mint position, cut open sacks, and left his knife in the box. Kilpatrick, a well known 30th ward politician, is linked to a $358 shortage in silver dollars. Endurance tests for autos to run from New York to Pittsburgh over 859 miles in seven days were approved by National Association of Automobile Manufacturers executives. The route averages 120 miles per day with a range of 83 to 150 miles.
