James R. Carnahan major general of the uniform rank of the Knights of Pythias died at his Woodruff Place home after a two week illness. Born November 18, 1841 in Day ton Indiana, he served in the Civil War with the 86th Indiana and later joined the Knights of Pythias in 1874 rising to grand chancellor of Indiana in 1880. He is regarded as founder of the uniform rank and served as major general until his death.
