Esther Grinage Kindergarten Reunion Honors legacy in Frederick
The Esther Grinage Kindergarten reunion recalling social bonding and local history highlights how the Esther Grinage Scholarship Fund supports early education careers. Former students recall a neighborhood classroom on Bentz Street linked to Roger Brooke Taney history and enduring community ties. The fund, created in 1973 after the kindergarten closed, has awarded hundreds of $300 to $500 scholarships with support from the Community Foundation of Frederick County. Esther Grinage taught in Frederick County black elementary schools for 35 years and was active at Asbury United Methodist Church until her death in 1947.
