Oriental Fruit Moth Attacks Peaches in Maryland
Entomologists at the University of Maryland report the Oriental fruit moth is attacking peaches in West Maryland and on the Eastern Shore. They recommend immediate control using five pounds of 50 percent wettable DDT per 100 gallons of water plus six pounds of wettable sulfur for brown rot control, and warn against applying DDT within three to four weeks of harvest. The larvae create holes and gum balls and may tunnel into twigs, harming the crop.
