San Francisco astronomers find new extra solar planet nearby
Four San Francisco State University astronomers and colleagues report a planet orbiting Ghese 876, a very low mass star about 15 light years away. The team used the Keck Observatory to detect wobbles, indicating a planet roughly 1.8 times Jupiter mass, the closest such world found to Earth. The discovery supports the idea that many low mass stars harbor planets.
