Thurmont man shot by state troopers after domestic dispute
John Meredith Carter 45 was shot once in the chest by Maryland state troopers at a New Windsor home after taking his estranged wife Mary Jane Carter at gunpoint and threatening to kill her. Carter was in serious but stable condition at Shock Trauma Center Baltimore. Trooper Ed Humphries was treated for a cut hand. trooper Tic Miller fired the fatal shot and was placed on leave pending internal affairs review. No charges filed against Carter at this time.

Frederick City Police Officer David Armstrong escaped injury after being dragged 60 feet when suspect Ronald Cornwell, 47, weighed over 300 pounds, grabbed the officer through a car window and drove off.
