Frederick County faces a worsening doctor shortage per the Health Profile by the county health planning office. County officials weigh terms with Mr Grove Lime Company for a 23 acre sandpit west of Woodsboro to serve northern remains and the county. William M. Houck of Thurmont and later Annapolis, who represented Frederick County in the Maryland General Assembly from 1959 to 1974, died July 31 at University of Maryland Hospital Baltimore. Born March 14 1920 in Keyser West Virginia he served in the Maryland State Police 1941 to 1947 and in Army Intelligence during World War II. He worked for Lincoln National Life Insurance and served on Thurmont Town Council 1953 1954.
Harry R Rhoderick announced his candidacy for the Republican State Central Committee this week. A lifetime Republican he has been active as precinct chairman in the Mi Pleasant and Braddock Ejection district and served as president of the Young Republicans Club and GOP Club of Frederick County. He was elected state and National delegate to the National GOP convention in 194. Rhoderick is a building contractor developer and insurance broker, a World War I and Naval Reserve veteran, and is active in the Kiwanis Club and Homebuilders.
House debate on the impeachment question looms as leaders and lawmakers from both parties forecast outcomes. Rep. Ashbrook expects passage by a near three to one margin, while Rep. ONeill estimates over 75 percent support for impeachment.
Frederick City Mayor Ronald N. Young said economic concerns will outweigh candidate personalities in the upcoming county commissioners race. He cited Watergate inflation and energy problems as key factors shaping voter behavior and opened an inquiry into the proposed downtown post office site while defending city services and the readiness of Operation Revival set for September.
A 21 year old Frederick man, William R. Zimmerman Jr., was badly hurt when his motorcycle struck a skunk on Ballenger Creek Pike. The bike went off road, through a barbed wire fence, and flipped with Zimmerman pinned beneath it. He was flown to the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medicine in Baltimore in poor condition with massive head injuries. The fate of the skunk was not known.
Harold S. Nelson former boss of Associated Milk Producers Inc pleaded guilty to conspiracy to bribe John B Connally and to over 300000 in illicit political donations He admitted authorizing a 10000 payment intended for Connally and faces up to five years in prison and a 10000 fine The case ties to Watergate prosecutors and Nixon era politics with large corporate donations and lobbying efforts disclosed across 1968 70 and 72 campaigns.

The New York stock market fell again, hitting a 45 month low. At 10:30 a.m. the Dow Jones average of 30 industrials stood at 755.40, down 203 points as losers outpaced gainers by a 32 margin on the New York Stock Exchange.
