Washington reports that Muleshoe residents regained their postmark hours from eight to five after a dispute over a mail service change. Letters were previously sent to Lubbock for sorting, ending with a Lubbock postmark before a compromise was reached.
The 1970 summer program for partially sighted children runs June 29 to August 7 at East Frederick Elementary School with eighteen students from ten Frederick County elementary schools. Participants come from Foxville, Rocky Ridge, Thurmont, LeGore, New Midway, Walkersville, Brunswick, Burkittsville, Middletown, Myersville and Frederick City. selection is based on visual loss and needs. The six week program continues academic learning and enriches experiences through weekly themes Great Americans Make a Great Nation and its subthemes, including government arts and sports. Field trips include Gettysburg, the Smithsonian trip, and the Baltimore Orioles game, plus museum visits, art sessions, and hands on activities. Support comes from local clubs, with ongoing fundraising to complete funding needs.
Four Frederick women founded Kids, Inc seven years ago to aid underprivileged children. The group now supports about 50 youths with crafts, food, clothing, dental care, camp trips, and special events funded by raffles, art sales, and donations. With seven volunteers handling 15 children each, organizers urge more help as costs rise. Contact Mrs. Buell at 663-5341 for information.
Amvets Auxiliary Post 2 held its annual picnic July 29 at the Warren Feltz cabin near the Monocacy River. The Buhrman Reunion will be held at Cunningham Falls Park in the Manor Area near Catoctin Furnace on August 9 beginning at noon with a picnic lunch. Entertainment is planned for all ages and a short business meeting will be conducted. Seats are assigned in the U S Senate by seniority with Democrats on the vice president's right and Republicans on the left.
