Brunswick Bridge Dedication Opens Maryland Virginia Link
A parade of Maryland and Virginia units along Petersville road and West B street led to the dedication of the Brunswick Bridge. The 32 foot wide span connects Frederick County Maryland with Loudoun County Virginia and carries Md route 17 over Main Street, rail yards and the canal to cross the Potomac. The old bridge of 1893, closed after the new span opened, will be demolished next week. Governor McKeldin dedicated the bridge with remarks on regional progress and unity, unveiling a commemorative plaque and cutting the ribbon. The celebration continued with a street dance and awards for parade entrants. Construction cost shared by U S Bureau of Public Roads, Maryland and Virginia totaled 2.85 million dollars.
