Forest fire burns over 10 000 acres in central Pa
In Sprout State Forest spanning Clinton and Centre counties the wind whipped fire scorched more than 10 000 acres by Sunday. About 200 firefighters aided by helicopters battled the blaze as officials sought help from nearby towns. three camp sites were evacuated and two hikers found unharmed. The cause remains unknown amid high heat low humidity and strong winds. The fire threatened the Susquehanna River and was described as one of the worst losses since the 1930s.
