Clarence C. Thomas of Adamstown is named to the Frederick County Board of Education for a six year term starting Monday. Governor Tawes issued the commission, Thomas to qualify before the board meeting next Wednesday. Other commissions were issued for trial magistrates in Frederick and three towns, to take office Monday, as Democrats take over these posts after eight years. Two fulltime trial magistrates are Edward D. Storm and Byron W. Thompson, with Goodloe E. Byron as substitute. Commissions are for two years from May, with other magistrates named for Brunswick, Thurmont, and Emmitsburg. Magistrates expected to qualify by Monday. election supervisors’ terms begin the same day, with the county license commissioner not taking office until June.

Three Md. wrecks claim three lives on U S 301 and nearby roads
Two crashes on U S 301 in Southern Maryland and one in suburban Baltimore killed three people. Charles L. Jr. of Florida died near Upper Marlboro. Theresa O. McDonagh of La Plata died after being thrown from her car at MD 225 and 301 intersection. Thomas Williams, 29, a Black man, died when his car hit a tractor trailer at Hawkins Point and Marley Neck Roads. Detours and hospitalizations followed as investigators cited failure to yield right of way and improper lane keeping.

At 6 39 am two cars collided at East South and South Carroll streets. William J Grimes of Mastic New York charged for running a red light eastbound on South Street. Edgar S Grimes of East Patrick Street was southbound on Carroll. Estimated damage 75 to Grimes car and 100 to Griffith vehicle. Griffith posted 5 collateral for a hearing. Sergt Harry Phillips conducted the investigation.
