C And P Asks Court To Reduce Assessment
Annapolis April 28 The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company asked the Court of Appeals to cut an assessed value of 67 588 525 on its property, objecting to the State Tax Commission methods. Attorney General Hall Hammond defended the assessment as proper, noting presumptive correctness. The company claimed earnings and plant value factors varied unfavorably, with earnings weighted least when low and most when high, while net operating income declined and plant in service rose. The Tax Commission appealed a Baltimore Circuit Court order to recalculate the assessment.
