Oprah's Brewster Place starts gently on ABC
New ABC half hour series based on The Women of Brewster Place begins in Chicago. Oprah Winfrey stars as Mattie Michael, a dignified single mother facing hard knocks and uncertain future. The premiere mixes warmth with a need for deeper grit as characters adjust after misfortune. Etta Mae pushes Mattie toward a risky restaurant venture while neighbors adapt to a changing neighborhood.
