Welfare Aid Reduced by State Budget in Frederick County
The Frederick County Board of Public Welfare cut welfare aid by 538.40 in April, forcing 10 cases to lose or have aid curtailed. At a Winchester Hall meeting, officials approved budget adjustments that minimize county and Federal matching losses, with most cuts in general public assistance and aid to dependent children. No changes were made to old age assistance, which remains funded by both county and Federal money. Only four new cases were accepted while many closures occurred and about a dozen applications await state funding. Savings came from these budget-driven changes.

Director Katherine McHale notes Frederick has avoided recent ease road increases, while other Maryland counties face heavier budget cuts. Attendees included Mrs. Richard Nailin, Calvin Lohr, Rev. Ralph Miller, Commissioner Robert Rhoderick, and Mrs. McHale. Alexandrite coloration note appears as Britannica reference.
