The final meeting before November drew a large crowd at the Y M C A with Mrs J L Markey presiding in President Norwood’s absence. A new member joined as William J Grove presented papers on money lenders and wills freeing slaves. Old deeds of the Merryland Tract were shown, and the society planned its May 25 outing.

Convicted and Appeals In Local Court Affects Couple and Youths
Calvin Boone ordered to pay his wife 10 dollars weekly after being found guilty of failing to support his wife and five children by Justice Sherman P. Bowers in police court. Samuel A. Lewis, Boone's attorney, filed an appeal. George Wilson, arrested on concealed weapons and vagrancy charges, was dismissed after pledging to leave Frederick immediately. Haymond Ker, 17, colored, found guilty of assault and battery against DPlossie Houlman, 15, colored, and fined 19 dollars and costs. Also notes a cider preservation method under Ohio State University experiments and a smoking contest in England where the winner kept a pine alight for 92 minutes.

A meeting is called for Thursday at 7 45 P M in the Y M C A auditorium to organize a Law and Order League of Frederick. Promoted by the county Ministerial Association and the Frederick County Sunday School union, the group aims to enforce laws and order with Friday speakers including R J Funkhouser of Hagerstown.
