Children plant garden to feed the poor at the YMCA
North Frederick Kid's Club and the Frederick YMCA transformed an abandoned flower garden into a six by six foot vegetable plot behind the YMCA. Fifteen children planted tomatoes peppers and beans as part of Nickelodeon's Big Help Week to aid the Frederick Rescue Mission and show youth volunteering across the country.

Richard Beckley Sr. Dies at 85 Former tourism council president
Richard Perry Beckley Sr., former Frederick County Tourism Council president, died Friday at Frederick Memorial Hospital at age 85. Born December 27, 1912, in Hagerstown, he owned Beckley's Motel until 1982 and helped build the U.S. 15 Information Center in 1983. Survived by his wife Ethel, three sons, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a sister. Funeral set for April 27 at Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Home with visiting Sunday.

U S Navy Band Concerts Canceled After Executive Officer Death
The U S Navy Band cancels Sunday April 26 concerts at the Weinberg Center for the Arts Frederick due to the executive officer's death. The Frederick News-Post sponsors the events and cannot reschedule soon. Condolences are offered to the band and the officer's family. future concerts will be planned with notice.
