Southerners React To Supreme Court Bus Ruling
Southern leaders condemn the ruling against segregated public buses as an unwarranted invasion of state rights while Montgomery hopes the decision may hasten an end to the nearly five month Negro bus boycott. Attorneys general from Virginia South Carolina and Texas say they are not surprised and stress states cannot regulate vehicles or police power. In Montgomery a May 11 three judge panel will hear the segregation constitutionality suit against city and state laws.
