Vapor in Minuteman silo prompts evacuations in Sawyer North Dakota
Twenty four residents fled farm homes overnight after the Air Force detected an unidentified vapor in an underground Minuteman II missile silo near Sawyer ND. Preliminary tests found no harm but more tests were planned as officials say there is no immediate danger to the public. The 60 foot silo houses a 78 000 pound missile that can carry three warheads though no warhead is considered a factor in the incident. The spokesman cited water seepage as a possible non missile related source for the vapor.
