Umpires Demand For Raises Not Accepted In Frederick Leagues
Four senior Frederick area baseball leagues refuse to grant umpire wage increases. They cite financial strain and travel costs, saying they will offer last year’s scale or use their own officials if no agreement is reached by Monday. Umpires demand higher pay, including per game and playoff rates, but leaders warn of starting the season with league umpires if no deal is made.

Maryland Communist Leader Touched Off US Invasion Theories
Charles Nicodemus testified at a Communist conspiracy trial that Albert Lannon told a Maryland party meeting in 1915 that Russia could invade the United States via Alaska and Canada. He said Lannon urged sabotage of American industry and demoralization if war with Russia occurred, and later claimed prosperity would lessen revolution chances. The exchange occurred as defendants faced the judge in Baltimore.
