Mount St Helens Emissions Continue Five Days Long
A small steam plume rose from Mount St Helens marking the fifth straight day of activity in southwestern Washington. FAA noted no ash but restricted flights below 17,000 feet. a larger plume reached about 30,000 feet above sea level Saturday as gas and steam vented. Geologists say these degassing events are not signs of an imminent eruption and could continue for weeks. The volcano had been quiet for about 10 months since the May 18, 1980 eruption that devastated the area and left 57 dead or missing.
