The Republican city executive committee meets Thursday in the Court House to set a convention date and begin selecting a ticket for the upcoming municipal election. Chairman Emmett R. Bowlus plans to resign, with a successor likely chosen. Declared candidates include Alderman Russell H. McCain, Mehrl F. Wachter, and Alderman Edward P. Oden. A full ticket is expected, with the election in June.

A 20 year old shipyard welder, one of ten arrested on charges of sabotaging ships by defective work, was sentenced to one and a half to three years in a reformatory by Judge William C Calefy. Federal prosecutors say it may be the first such conviction in the war effort. George Arnold Stsele of Franklin Furnace Ohio was convicted of improperly welding 660 inches of shin steel at Bethlehem Fairfield Shipyard. The other nine defendants remain held in $3,000 bail each for hearings April 22. The judge urged war workers to realize the importance of their tasks.
The New York market held steady with support from rail and selective industrials. About 80,000 tons of wood will be saved in 1943 by reducing sizes and stock items for grocers and various baggy goods.
