Big crowd for leagues' openers and dives into deal chatter
New York April 18 Major League Baseball opened with heavy attendance across two AL sectors and big gates expected as play extends tomorrow. The day featured a Patriots Day doubleheader with the Yankees and Red Sox, plus NL action in New York Philadelphia Cincinnati and St Louis. Key issues loom: a pay dispute with Dibloggio and the impact of Dizzy Dean's Cubs addition after a record sale of 2700000 dollars combined with other trades. Yankees lose opener as Jim Bagby Jr. pitches a six inning win for Cleveland. Washington routs Philadelphia 12 to 8 in a season opener before 28000 at Nationals Park. Bonura homers and Ferrell allows early hits. Weems key hitter Vosmik among locals tipped for Newark season start.
