C&O Canal Hikers Complete 18 Miles on Historic Trail
About 100 members of the C&O Canal Association led by Justice William O Douglas finished the first 18 mile leg of their 14 mile tie and began the next segment amid a banquet at the Algonquin Inn in Cumberland. Nixon names Simon as Treasury chief in inflation era
President Nixon selected William E. Simon a 46 year old former Wall Street banker to succeed George P. Shultz as Treasury secretary. Simon has led the Federal Energy Office since December and will be energy administrator to John C. Sawhill. Inflation dominates the challenge as consumer prices rose 8.2 percent last year and hit about 12 percent in early 1973.
