Advertising By Physicians Questioned
Annapolis April 13 The Court of Appeals heard Dr. William A. Davis of Baltimore challenge the 1943 prohibition on physician advertising as unconstitutional. The act forbids advertising by physicians except for professional cards, removal notices, and building signs, with fines up to 300 dollars per offense and possible license revocation. The state Attorney General argued the law uses police power to protect public health and prevent mistreatment by the incompetent.

Refusal to Have Children Held Reason For Divorce
In a Maryland first, Circuit Court Judge William L. Henderson ruled that one spouse’s refusal to have children when the other desired them is grounds for divorce, calling it marital desertion. Mrs. Ann Crawford Mailey of Baltimore was granted the divorce from John Bernard Mailey after she testified she wanted three children and he refused. The decision follows a Maryland policy that marriage serves procreation and the prevention of licentiousness, with the court adopting the interpretation that blocking children constitutes desertion.
