Pomona Grange Meets at Mt Pleasant for Summer Program
Pomona Grange Frederick County held its quarterly session in Mt Pleasant with morning and afternoon meetings and lunch. Resolutions urged farmer self reliance, optimism, and hard work, opposing new land measures, and promising minutes to be published. A big county picnic plan and a discussion on farm prices and sugar were among the topics, with Dr Symons and others addressing agricultural standing and cooperation. The next meeting is planned for New Market in July.

Explanation of the ascent of sap by cellular pumping action
The article reports that J C Base, a Windy plant biologist, proposes that sap rises by a cellular pumping action inside the plant rather than transpiration or root pressure. He cites an experiment on a chrysanthemum showing ascent at 60 feet per hour with no transpiration. He notes active cells in the inner bark and references an electric probe revealing cell activity.
