Governor seeks federal help over attacks on tourists
Florida Governor Lawton Chiles said he would ask for federal aid to combat a rising image of Florida as a danger zone after brutal attacks on foreign tourists. The move followed the killing of a German woman, the seventh foreign visitor slain since November, and a separate smash and grab injuring three Danish women nearby. Police arrested a 24 year old man for throwing a spark plug through a rental car window. The incidents threaten Florida’s $28 billion tourism industry and its overseas reputation.
