Public to Hear Plans for Alleviating Overcrowding at MontCo Highs

Public hearing set for 7 30 p.m. Thursday April 26 to discuss alternative plans to relieve overcrowding in Gaithersburg and Germantown high schools. Superintendent Wilmer Cody proposes building a new 1400 student high school by 1987 for grades 9 11 and a second high school in the early 1990s, with additions at Gaithersburg and Seneca Valley as alternatives. The board will evaluate need after 1990 and consider relocatable classrooms in the interim as enrollment trends project dramatic growth through 2000.

Carroll commissioners press $2 million reduction for BoE budget

Carroll County plans further cuts to the Board of Education budget to preserve a 10 percent teacher pay hike. John L. Armacost and commissioners seek 2 million in reductions using surplus funds, with four cent tax rise leaving the rate at 2.08. Five new teachers may replace 10, and some salary areas could be trimmed. The plan relies on carryover funds and potential state money, with a May hearing and June adoption.
