Local draftees leave for camp under uncertain rules
A group of Draft Board One men departed Tuesday for Army service amid confusion over the latest Selective Service guidance affecting registrants over 26 in essential war work. Board chairman Parsons Newman said officials do not fully understand the new orders and await clarified regulations from state headquarters. The group, largely over 26, was sent after verbal directions from State HQ, as officials noted the term war supporting activities remains undefined. Names of those departing by bus to Baltimore and Fort Meade include Russell R. Keller, William C. Kilby, Calvin L. Palmer, Franklin E. Baker, James P. Dolan, William C. Specht, Nicholas N. Forte, William R. Delauter, and Raymond H. Houck.
