Harrisburg April 11 An attempt to murder Miss Katie Lyter 21 was made Wednesday night at her Linglestown home. Harry Rebuck, of Harrisburg, is under suspicion as police search for him. Rebuck was jailed six months on Miss Lyter’s testimony for stealing a watch. The girl was struck across the head with an axe, woke, fled, and neighbors pursued but did not capture him. A cap and gloves found in Rebuck’s possession were identified. He is Lyter’s cousin and had threatened to kill her.
Detroit on April 11 reported two brutal murders with two suspects in custody. James Miller, a small teacher and married man, is held on suspicion in the stabbing and hatchet blows that killed Carrie M. Jennett, 22, found on Thirteenth Street. W F Jones, lodging with the Haywoods, is suspected in the beating death of George W. Haywood, a bookkeeper and paymaster, at Junction Avenue homes. Both cases show indications of personal enmity, not robbery, with blood found on Miller’s clothing and a blood-stained hatchet found at his home.
In Brussels late last night a riot between rioters and police near the Maison du Peuple wounded over 30 people including women and children. Clashes began on Rue des Minimes as cobblestones flew then continued on Rue Stevens with gunfire from both sides. Police cleared Rue Stevens but the Maison du Peuple remained under rioter control as barricades were erected and rails torn up.
Adolph Blau pleaded guilty yesterday to ticket scalping in Scranton Pennsylvania and was fined 23 dollars. He claimed belief that ticket scssing was localized by a Buffalo decision in the Lackawan Da cese.
