Leopards Rout Cougars In Dual Meet Win 87 54

Thurmont Smithsburg swept most events beating Catoctin 87 54 in a dual track meet on Friday. Steve Stouter won three events for the Cougars including the long jump and triple jump and ran on the mile relay. Other winners were Pryor in the mile Biser in the intermediate hurdles and Johnson in the 120 high hurdles.

FCC routs Arundel behind McCarthy in JUCO baseball

FCC used eight hit pitching from Jeff McCarthy and five hits from Chip Hess to defeat Charles Community College 9 to 3 Friday. McCarthy walked three and struck out seven in a complete game. Hess had four singles and a double, driving in a run in the seventh inning as he extended his hitting streak to nine. Crum, Crabb and Danner added two hits each, while Biggus drove in two on a first inning two run single. FCC led 5 0 after two, then withstood Charles on a 5 3 bid before a three run fifth sealed it. The Cougars sit 5 7.

Francis Scott Key edged Linganore 8-4 as Linganore starter Ashley Burall allowed 17 hits and eight runs in six innings. Key led 3-0 after the first, extended to 5-0 by the fifth, Linganore answered with four in the bottom of the fifth, but three Key runs in the sixth sealed the win.
