Inspector Bill To Be Approved

The General Assembly approves three local measures including ending the inspector position in the county license office and authorizing a Circuit Court judge salary increase. Governor Tawes is slated to sign today. The inspector role ends June 1 with Louis V Myers Jr moving to license commissioner. The other bills cover judge pay up to 4500 dollars yearly and transfer of magistrate records to successors.

Food Poison Strikes 300 Union Workers

About 300 Ohio union members were stricken on a Toledo Washington train while en route to an AFL-CIO unemployment center. Illness was mainly stomach cramps and diarrhea after eating turkey in the dining car Tuesday night. A Detroit Washington train reported 30 members ill after similar turkey meals.

Firemen curb spread of multiple Washington County blazes

Firemen and forest personnel gained control of a tenth acre pine plantation fire on Willis Derr road near Feagaville. An acre and a half field fire near Park Hills prompted officials to assess dry conditions. Mushroom hunters are blamed for several grass and small woods fires in Dargan area as warm 72 degree temperatures fell to 29 at night.

Coast Guard Seeks Mercy Mission Off Alaska

Ehmecapades On Tuesday at Elm Street School

First Place To Jefferson In Grange One-Act Play Contest

The Jefferson Grange won top honors in the Pomona Grange one act play contest held Tuesday night at North End Elementary School with about 125 attending. Cast of the winning play includes Bernard Remsburg Helen Remshburg Dorothy Long Betty Grove Patty Lakm Merril Remsberg Jack Lakin Henry Lakin Jr. Arthur House directed by Mrs Merhi Remsberg. Robbers Break Into Local Car Sales Place

Recaptured prisoner details from Maryland state escape

State Police arrested James Combs at his mother’s Greensboro home for his part in the Patuxent escape. He is the 21st inmate recaptured after the large breakout. Combs walked 125 miles to Waterloo and surrendered without a fight. All fugitives face escape charges.

Best man Philip Sober of Johnstown Pa learned the newly married Eastlakes had been injured in a collision with a cement mixer truck on Jefferson boulevard Hagerstown. Waterman Slain in Oyster War on Potomac River

In the Potomac River near Colonial Beach Virginia and Maryland law enforcement clashed on a patrol boat. A waterman was killed and a second man Harvey King was wounded in the leg as officers fired warning shots at a Virginia dredging boat. John F. Griffith was aboard the Virginia boat. Edward S.
