Martin to Lead Senate Minority in Democratic Caucus
Virginia Senator Martin was elected chairman of the Senate Democratic caucus, assuming minority leadership. He won 21 votes to 16 for Shively, with three absent. The result favors the Bailey wing and provokes criticism from supporters of Bryan and progressive Democrats. Shively was re elected vice chairman and Chitton secretary by acclamation. A Dunmore vein fire at Pancoast colliery Throop in Scranton region killed between sixty and seventy workers.
