Memphis hosts six officers to assess needs and distribute rations across six Mississippi districts from Memphis to New Orleans. Officials plan food and medicine purchases in Memphis with Camp Congo physician oversight. Crevasses threaten Helena, Vicksburg, and areas to Baton Rouge with 3,000 Ark residents reported affected.

Michigan Governor Pingree refuses to surrender Prosecutor Sampson of Lan Awe county in New York. He notified Captain Oarien of the detective office of his decision. Sampson is wanted in connection with the Anthony tensen embezzlement case. Christensen was arrested and extradition proceedings followed. Sampson argued a demurrer in court, contending he and Sheriff Ferguson are Michigan citizens and not subject to New York law. decision to be announced next Tuesday.

Attending guests included Vice President Hobart and Mrs Hobart Secretary Sherman and Mrs Sherman and other cabinet officials.
A fragmentary report notes on March 11 a murder trial involving Armenians and a cyclist named Lenz. The Turkish Jew Erzercum is mentioned as influencing proceedings. The Armenians were abroad in Russia and the result of the trial was not known as the consul closed.

Lamont ex secretary of war under Cleveland will become president of the Northern Pacific within 60 days with headquarters likely in New York. Also notes Kruger's grandson to stand trial in Pretoria for recent public remarks about Queen Victoria.
Harrisburg April 8 The Crothers 26th trust bill passed the house by 18 to 6 with Bolles Zehnder Woottrutt and Boyer voting yes. It requires front and rear platforms on streetcars to be enclosed in November through March with glass enclosures. The liquor prohibition bill on Memorial Day failed in the house by 98 to 70. In the Senate Walton bill for a new state capital site costing 556000 passed, Hamilton road bill passed 42 to 0, and a measure banning insurance for non compos mentis or minors passed. Election contest evidence limited to four days was defeated 27 to 3. Nominees Schaeffer Smal and Mullen confirmed to state hospital boards. New Jersey parade plans for Grant monument dedication include National Guard presence. railroads to transport free. U S Glass strike ends at Glass City after three years. cost to union at least 350,000. Prohibition convention set for Altoona June 3 with Swallow as state treasurer candidate.
Albany April senate approves a bill to cut gas prices in greater New York by five cents per 1 000 feet annually until the price reaches 1 per 1 009 feet. The houses are expected to pass the measure.
