Finley Low Bid For Maryland State Route 26 resurfacing
The State Roads Commission announced Sam Finley Inc of Roanoke Va submitted the apparent low bid of 199 446 for a State Route 26 resurfacing project in the Unionville Libertytown area spanning about 2.3 miles from Unionville to Libertytown with widening from 18 20 feet to 24. A second low bid came from Richard F Kline Frederick at 293 09 The project forms part of a 12 year modernization plan including additional Route 26 work east of Unionville to Carroll County line and a Dolly Hyde branch bridge replacement nearby.

Damages Awarded in 23.62 Acre Condemnation Case
A Circuit Court jury awarded Mrs. Eliza Wright Selvage near New Market 312.205 for damages to her farm due to 23.62 acres taken by the State Roads Commission for a new dual U S 40. The total verdict was 13,205 while appraisers’ figures ranged from 6,844 to 16,343. Associates presided by Judge Schnauffer with local attorneys Rosenstock for Selvage and Sinn for the State. The jury deliberated about 30 minutes. Exhibition garments noted and Arbor Day proclamation by Gov McKeldin urged tree planting Friday.

The Agriculture Department bought about 116 million pounds of surplus dairy products on March 31, the last day before price supports fell 15 percent.
