Aiding Rural Roads Appears to Gain Momentum in Legislature

The State Roads Commission highway program, approved by the House, includes an amendment supported by Frederick county officials to allow counties to speed up mud road rebuilding by issuing revenue backed bonds. If counties gain 25 000 a year, they could issue 250 000 in bonds amortized over ten years, funding new road mileage. County share of the increased gasoline tax would drive funds, with a potential 200 000 yearly for Frederick if motor vehicle fees rise, but the fee hike was vetoed. Local delegates expect passage though the session may end Monday.
