Montgomery Police Head Calls For Army Air Support
Montgomery Police Chief Charles M. Orme proposed using a small air force plane to aid policing and traffic control near the University of Maryland area. He said a private pilot and corps members aided the hunt for two escaped robbers, and a plane could help ground searches, rescue work, and remote-area patrols. He planned to discuss with County Commissioner Brooke Jeans and noted the plan would cost taxpayers little. Weekend arrests in the county and nearby Fredericksburg included seven drunkenness charges and other detentions awaiting hearings.
