Labor Leaders Urge Byrnes to Control Farm Prices
The CIO cost of living committee voiced grave concern over the OPA and urged final control of all farm and food prices to remain with James F Byrnes. They opposed Chester Davis’s proposal for the agency to have the final say, warning that current price rises threaten inflation. The Labor War Board pressed for rigid retail price ceilings and stressed that OPA must hold the line on food prices, while supporting Byrnes and criticizing Davis.
