Fireman and War Veteran Capt. Smith Dies at 65
Capt. F. Lester Smith president of the State Firemen's Association and head of Citizens Truck Co. died at Frederick City Hospital at 7:15 AM, about a month after a paralytic stroke at his desk. WWI veteran and community leader, he had served as deputy state fire marshal and long-time firefighter, with a career spanning the local fire service and business community. Born October 37 1877 in Frederick, he worked as a bookkeeper and was active in multiple fire safety and veterans groups. Continued on Page Three.
