Young Officer Leads Cavalry in Viet Nam Jungle Fight
Lt. Daniel Kapica, 22, a New Englander with Harvard plans, took command of a battered 1st Cavalry unit during a heavy fight near the Chu Phong Mountains just south of the Cambodian border. He organized a counterattack after the commander and executive officer were wounded, holding a 50 yard wide perimeter through the night as air support arrived.
