County boy chosen as children's telethon ambassador
Brian Ballantine, nearly 10, was chosen male ambassador for the 10th annual Children’s Miracle Network Telethon at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at age three, he underwent three 1991 surgeries to rebuild his intestines. He wore an ostomy bag for six months, later removing it after final surgery in September 1991. He presented an ostomy doll to Urbana Elementary School classmates to explain his condition and hopes to become an author or a doctor.
