Storm leaves light damage, widespread flooding minimal

Builder sues over faulty Fire Retardant plywood roofing

Ausherman Construction Co. of Frederick files suit in Frederick County Circuit Court alleging that Fire Retardant Treated plywood used as roof sheathing deteriorates prematurely. The action targets designers, manufacturers, and sellers, seeks no monetary damages, and cites building codes requiring FRT plywood in Colony Village Walkersville. The Colony Village development includes 161 townhome units in 27 buildings.

County allocates state funds for Graceham Fire Co

Frederick County Commissioners approved 508 fire and rescue funds totaling 4284 for 26 companies including Graceham. They directed the county attorney to draft an ordinance to ease removal of a company from active service while saying funding follows need even if Graceham struggles with performance.

Emmitsburg Woman Killed Crossing U S 15

An elderly Frederick County woman, Alice S. Shorb, 41, of Emmitsburg, was struck and killed while crossing northbound U S 15 near Motter Station Road. The driver, Franklin F. Furman, 81, of Northumberland Pennsylvania, escaped injury and was not charged. Police said the investigation continues and will follow state guidelines.

Frederick officials vote to freeze salaries for four-year term

Mayor Paul Gordon and the Frederick Board of Aldermen vote unanimously to keep salaries at current levels for the next term. Aldermen will earn 11,800 a year and the mayor 59,000. Baltimore officials earn more. The board also seeks FEMA disaster aid of about 82,000 for snow removal and approves five acre Mercer Industrial Park annexation and a recycling bin site on Rosemont Avenue.

TJ High Students Win County Mock Trial Championship

The six member TJ team from Gov Thomas Johnson and Middletown High Schools defeated the defendant on six counts including robbery to claim the county mock trial title. They advance to face Montgomery County public schools for the regional crown in two weeks.

Schmoke weighs governor bid amid Supreme Court talk

Baltimore Mayor Kurt Schmoke indicated he is seriously considering a run for Maryland governor this summer while noting he might be appointed to the Supreme Court in a hypothetical scenario.
