Grading of Airport Is Progressing Despite Weather
Grading of the new municipal airport continues toward completion with Grandview Company reporting progress despite weather delays. About 300 skilled operators work ten hours daily on 20 machines, removing roughly 6,000 cubic yards daily and aiming for 7,000 to 8,000 cubic yards as conditions allow. The project area has seen little rock, and the schedule may extend if funds permit yardage increases. Bids for 66,000 cubic yards and for seeding the site were expected in New York. Road closures around Hughes Ford road will occur by April 12 as grading proceeds. A public turnout at the site drew about 2,000 visitors last Sunday. Officials include Arnold Cribari and Armand Correia, with Warwick Thomas as the government’s resident engineer.
