Washington April 3 Democrats in Congress adopt a big program for legislation aimed at gaining an edge in the 1912 presidential campaign. They plan to pass reciprocity after tariff measures, risking a clash with a Republican president and Senate. The strategy hinges on timing and potential extra sessions.
Senator OGorman wins seat from Depew as party leaders clue to a possible presidential prorogation tactic. Democrats plan to delay Canadian reciprocity until key tariff bills pass, then push bills on life costs and a popular Senate election to gain political leverage. If the minority chairhips form quickly, the majority may rush action to force accountability.

San Francisco April reports Jack Jolson serving a twenty five day speeding sentence seeks release to leave California. He told District Attorney Fickert he would depart if freed and quips about a leg of chicken. Fickert counters with coffee and beans diet while the idea of weight loss is noted.
A race riot in Laurel Delaware left one white man dead and five others shot. Whites armed attacked the colored district, a mob gathered around the jail, and the sheriff ferried four prisoners to Georgetown to avert lynching. Injured include Olen Stockley, George Hudson, Jo Thompson, and others. The fight began when a colored group fired on whites in the main street.
