Man smuggles his saw into prisons for concerts in parole work
The piece profiles Leroy Wetherill a 70 year old craftsman who travels to prisons in the Delaware Valley to perform on a 26 inch saw he calls a musical instrument. He recalls playing at Graterford Holmesburg and other facilities, using a saw bought at Sears to accompany church groups. He learned from a Depression era class and now also teaches guitar at an evening school while performing at folk clubs.
