Americans Valued for Peace Yet Ready for War, Says French Critic
Reading excerpts from a French review translated by the Literary Digest, M. de Vissec predicts the United States will be drawn into future conflicts in South America while praising American civism and strength. He notes Americans favor production and moral progress, remain combatively healthy, and would mobilize volunteers rapidly if war came. The Washington Star counters his claim that the Spanish-American War was won by shopkeepers.
