Potomac fuel spill cleanup hampered by rain and spill spread
In Terndon Virginia rain slowed efforts to clean a 336000 gallon Potomac spill that stretched along 50 miles. Officials tested chemicals to congeal the oil and ease collection while crews repaired ruptured pipes and expanded booms at Swan Creek and Mason Neck Wildlife Refuge as recovery rates improved. Local EPA and Coast Guard spokesmen cited ongoing containment work and uncertain total loss, with about 250000 gallons pumped out and 60000 unaccounted for.

I-270 Spur Crash Shuts Down Montgomery Road For Hours
A tractor trailer struck a concrete barrier on the I-270 spur in Montgomery County causing a six hour shutdown of two northbound lanes. No injuries were reported as the rig spilled gasoline across the road and traffic backed up to the Beltway. The incident occurred just past the divergence from the Capital Beltway inner loop, near the American Legion Bridge, with a similar crash at the same spot noted earlier in the week.
