Population changes in Frederick and surrounding Maryland counties
A MarylandUniversity of Maryland report shows Frederick county population declined by 1 477 between 1950 and 355 period with 1935 and 1950 levels at 60 814 and 62 251. 1951 to 1955 estimates show mixed gains and losses across neighboring counties with Montgomery leading growth and Washington and Carroll lagging. The county’s total personal income rose from 81.9 million to 97.1 million, per capita income ranking Frederick at 13th with 1 597, while Montgomery led at 2 230. The analysis notes farming dependence lowers per capita income and cautions on lingering lagging industries amid inflation and early 1956 outlook.
