Dear Miss Dix and a mother’s plea on love and duty
Dorothy Dix advises a widow to let her son marry the woman he loves, as marriages are personal and mothers should step back. She warns the mother that clinging to control destroys contact with her son and grandchild, urging reconciliation to visit the baby. She also rails at a nervous wife denying her husband his passion for horses, calling such self centeredness harmful and urging support. A young woman torn between love and duty is urged to discuss in law and manage filial care with her fiancé.
