Mrs. Mike Powell hosted a grand Saturday afternoon reception in a spacious hall with numbered chairs. Guests viewed a unique program titled The Sweet Family performed by a cast including Mrs. Alonzo Norris as Ma Sweet and Miss Bessie Powell as Betsy Belindy Sweet. A luncheon followed the show.
Mrs Mary Jane Turner 62 died last Monday night at the home of Rev and Mrs R F Hodnett in Franklin The funeral was Wednesday at Coke's Chapel with Rev Mr Ware of Turin in charge She was sister of the late J B Hunnicutt editor of the Southern Cultivator Survived by one daughter Mrs R F Hodnett related to many of Coweta Countys leading families Her husband was a Methodist preacher and brother of Major W A Turner of this city She was a Methodist and respected member loved by many friends and deeply mourned
Georgia candidate G A Nunnally from Newnan states he would advocate his ideas with full passion if a vote could be cast. He claims to act for the best interests of all candidates, their families, and every resident, calling for reforms to make Georgia the Empire State of the South and garden spot of the world.
Col. W. S. Hubbard was nominated for tax collector and won the race in last Saturday's primary. Hubbard led Willcoxon by 158 votes and Wilkinson by 224, with 1,256 total ballots cast in very bad weather. The turnout was well below half of registered voters.
The Twelve Club hosts a Saturday afternoon gathering at 2:30 at Mrs. Jos. T. Kirby home in Mrs. Powell's honor for having the year’s highest dominoes score. Each member may invite two guests. Receiving with Mrs. Kirby are Mesdames Mike Powell Frank Cole Hewlett Hall Earnest Powell Louis Hill P. B. Murphey R. O. Jones Edgar Croft Harry North Wade Dent and Miss Maie Campbell.
The Coweta Fertilizer Company replaces negro labor with white workers and hires 27 immigrants from Savannah including Swedes and Germans to operate the plant. The company plans more workers if the first importation proves satisfactory, a move watched by local employers.
Mrs Richards hosted afternoon receptions on Temple Avenue in Macon with her mother and guests including Mrs Man g et, Mrs Henry Arnall, and Mrs Richards. The event featured a dominoes game with first prize won by Mrs Bar row and consolation by Mrs Calhoun Hill, followed by a Japanese pin tray gift and a salad course.
Mrs Sam Banks won the first prize with flinch games ending in a social gathering. Mrs M T Phillips drew the consolation and Mrs Z Green got the booby. Mrs Richards received a dainty piece of handwork and all enjoyed a delicious salad course.
Grantville and nearby towns report pastoral visits and political interest figures, with numerous social visits, gatherings, and illnesses. A death by heart failure of a local shoemaker, Lillian Cole’s accident, and a boiler explosion recount in Palmetto are noted along with church sermons and political endorsements for Dr. Nunnally.
Hugh G Hackney departs Newnan today to accept a teller position in the ladies department at Maddox Rucker Banking Co in Atlanta. He has spent the past two years at First National Bank of Newnan and is described as an efficient and popular clerk.
A large force grades the Newnan rail road junction site for a new passenger station. Dirt removed will be reused to build a side track to the oil mill below the junction. Work is expected to begin on the passenger station soon.
At Young's Tan yard last Saturday during the primary a Coweta citizen polled 21 voters on the governor race. Sixteen backed Hoke Smith, one backed Russell, one backed Jim Smith, and three were noncommittal.
